Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that if American-made Tomahawk cruise missiles are delivered to Ukraine, Kiev will reach the capacity to hit about 2 thousand Russian military facilities. In his statement yesterday, Lukashenko stated that the step in question will escalate the tension and drag the world to the brink of nuclear war.
The Belarusian leader also emphasized that Russia is focused on establishing peace in Ukraine.
“This goes as far as nuclear war”
According to the Belta agency, Lukashenko, in his assessment on the subject, said, "No Tomahawk will stop the war in Ukraine. This leads the situation to the nuclear war. The name that understands this best is probably (US President) Donald Trump. That's why he's not very eager to give this deadly weapon and allow him to attack the depths of Russia as (Ukrainian President Vladimir) Zelenskiy imagined," he said.
Trump can use missiles as a trump card against Putin
On the other hand, US President Donald Trump, in a statement to the press last Sunday, stated that he could talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin about the possibility of giving Tomahawk missiles to Kiev.
Trump said, "Maybe I'll tell him: Listen, if this war is not resolved, I will send them Tomahawks (to Ukraine). I can send it. Tomahawk is an extraordinary weapon, literally attack-oriented. To be honest, there is no need for Russia to face such a thing," he said.
Zelenskiy says 'military targets', Putin warns 'relations will collapse'
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy, on the other hand, "assured" that if these missiles were delivered by Washington, they would only be used in attacks on military targets in Russia, especially energy infrastructure. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the delivery of such missiles to Ukraine would mark a “qualitively new” phase of tension and “collapse” relations between Moscow and Washington.
Putin emphasized that the Russian air defense is ready to shoot down these missiles, while adding that Ukraine's use of Tomahawk will not change the balance of power at the front.
Eyes on critical meeting in Washington
Following these developments, Trump announced that he would meet with Zelenskiy in Washington on Friday, October 17 to discuss the Tomahawk issue.
In the statement made by the White House yesterday, Trump stated that Zelenskiy would request these missiles during the meeting and said, "He wants a gun. He wants to buy the Tomahawks. Everyone wants Tomahawk. We have a lot too," he said.
